We are looking for you!

Who we're looking for

We are looking to add a team member who is:

Well trained

We are seeking a psychotherapist with a license to practice psychotherapy or who is registered as an AMFT, LPCC, or Psychological Assistant, and who has already completed the EFCT Externship.

Friendly

We are looking for a warm and approachable person who brings a strong work ethic, good sense of humor, and team spirit to the clinic. We believe in working hard while having fun together!

Emotionally attuned

A key trait is your ability to empathize and connect with clients on an emotional level. Personal and professional experiences with practices that enhance embodiment and presence, like mindfulness or yoga, are a plus.

Eager to learn

Our ideal candidate has a keen interest in learning Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and applying it in their work with couples and families. On a personal level, we love it when team members take time to reflect on their work and use feedback to shine even brighter.

Experienced

We are looking for a therapist with experience in working with couples. Candidates with additional experience or interest in working with children, teens, and families will be given priority consideration.

Tech comfortable

Virtual sessions are a big part of our practice. We are looking for someone who is comfortable with the tech side of Zoom and online scheduling, and who has a quiet and welcoming space from which to conduct sessions.

About Us

About Sage River Psychotherapy

Sean Cook | Psychologist | Sage River Psychotherapy | Sacramento, CA

Dr. Sean Cook

Sacramento Psychologist, Certified EFT Therapist and Supervisor, Founder of Sage River Psychotherapy

We are compassionate, imperfect humans who are very intentional about our approach to therapy.

At Sage River Psychotherapy, our team of diverse therapists specializes in experiential, attachment-based, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive care.

We’re passionate about helping people break free from limiting patterns and reconnect with the truth of who they are—so they can feel more alive, connected, and at ease in their relationships.

Our foundation lies in the vision of our founder, an experienced psychologist, certified Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Supervisor, and Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) Teacher. This makes us an ideal learning and practicing environment for therapists keen on specializing in EFT with individuals, couples, and families.

At the heart of our practice are three core values: presence, belonging, and kindness. We believe in the power of being fully present, as true change and life unfold in the here and now. Our sense of belonging is rooted in this mindfulness, acknowledging our interdependence with each other and the world around us. This realization naturally leads to kindness – a force that can be both gentle and fiercely assertive in the face of injustice. At Sage River, we strive to embody this balance of strength and tenderness, supporting our team and clients to live in harmony with these values.

Everyone has plenty of good reasons not to show others the places they’ve been hurt, rejected, and abandoned.

At Sage River Psychotherapy we are grateful to each of our clients for showing up and showing us those areas where they want to heal.

Social justice is at the heart of how we live and practice. Sage River Psychotherapy is built on:

Why try to work with some other moment when this one, is the door to experience – and experience is the only thing that truly heals, grows, and changes us?
We belong to ourselves, to each other, and to the natural world. Every last bit of suffering is birthed in our disconnection from true, deep belonging in one or all of those domains.
We can be interested, present, and spacious–good qualities, all–but healing requires another ingredient–warmth. No flower can bloom without the sun.

Our Mission

Our mission at Sage River Psychotherapy is to create a space where being present, feeling connected, and being kind is the focus. We believe in living in the moment and feeling connected to others and the world around us. We believe, like the poet Naomi Shihab Nye, that to stand in connection and “catch the thread of all sorrows and see the size of the cloth” leads to the realization that kindness is the only response that makes sense. Sometimes kindness is tender, and sometimes when it meets injustice, it is fierce. At Sage River, we support each other and our clients in living in that fierce, tender balance.
